Siding Information

Fiber Cement Siding

Fiber cement siding is extremely durable and stable (no expansion or contraction.) Backed by a 50 year warranty and 15 year pre-finished warranty, fiber cement is a great alternative that will add real value to your home. It looks great too, with smooth or wood grain surface texture. It is available in horizontal lap siding, vertical board and baton style or shakes. For ironclad durability and design flexibility look to fiber cement as your siding of choice. Fiber cement siding does need to be painted, but because it doesn't expand and contract with temperature changes or absorb moisture with changing humidity, a high quality paint could last 20 years or longer. A pre-painted version is also available in limited colors.

Vinyl Siding

Vinyl is the least expensive of the siding materials available and it is literally maintenance free. Improved manufacturing techniques have increased resistance to fading and made vinyl siding much more durable. A variety of surface textures, simulated shakes, and colors make vinyl siding an attractive and popular choice for many.

Insulated Vinyl Siding

Add insulation to your walls and siding at the same time.  Many brands of vinyl siding offer an insulated version in a variety of colors, styles and textures.  Insulated Vinyl Siding offers clear advantages and WILL save you money on your home heating and cooling costs. It has high efficiency solid foam insulation bonded to the back of it, making it extremely durable and adding an R-Value of 3 or 4 to your walls. The result is greater energy efficiency and comfort in both summer and winter. In addition, the solid foam insulation also serves as an excellent sound deadener that reduces noise from the outside.

Wood and Cedar Shake Siding

Wood and cedar shake siding is also available. Although esthetically very beautiful, any type of natural wood siding requires more maintenance then synthetic (maintenance free) types of siding.

Steel Siding

Steel siding is very durable and great looking, although more expensive than vinyl.  Steel is far more resistant to impact damage than vinyl or aluminum.  It’s available in many fade resistant, PVC coated colors and textures.

Aluminum Siding

Aluminum siding has lost favor with consumers because of fading issues with earlier versions and how easily aluminum dents.  With lower demand for it, there has been a decreased availability of textures and sizes.

Siding FAQ's

Q. What kind of underlayment is used with installation of siding?
A. A water proof fabric is used under all siding installations, generally referred to as house wrap. It allows humidity to pass out of the house, but keeps liquid water out.

Q. Will insulated vinyl siding add significant energy savings?
A. If your house was built with 2 by 4 walls, then adding R-4 insulation value with the siding could add up to 30% energy efficiency to the non-window wall areas. A 2 by 6 wall will not gain as much energy efficiency as a percentage.

Q. Is fiber cement siding maintenance free?
A. Factory painted fiber cement siding typically carries a 15 year limited warranty against peeling, cracking, and chipping. Whether it is installed pre-painted or painted after installation, paint eventually fades and will need re-painting.

Q. How long will vinyl siding last?
A. Over time vinyl siding will fade and get brittle. Pastel colors won't show fading as much as darker colors. Refer to the warranty of the particular siding you choose.
