Chimney Repair and Restoration MN

Like all structures that are exposed to the elements, chimneys need repair, but seldom, if ever, does an entire chimney need to be replaced. Flaking and cracking of the bricks in the top 2 or 3 feet is most common on chimneys built after 1960. Many of these chimneys were built with bricks from torn down buildings. These bricks were not made for exterior use where they would be exposed to a combination of moisture and freezing conditions. The problem can be solved by replacing the bad bricks with a matching brick meant for exterior application in a northern climate. The uppermost flue tile section is replaced at the same time. If the flashing around the base of the chimney is allowing a leak, that is a separate matter and is handled by a roofer.

At Dan Netko Exteriors our mason, Mark, has been doing chimney repair and chimney restoration for over 25 years. He knows and understands the nearly limitless possibilities that are available with brick and stone when it comes to repairing and restoring chimneys, fireplaces and other masonry repair.

So call us to handle your chimney repair or other masonry repair.

We specialize in all exterior remodeling services such as roofing repairs, exterior painting, and hail damage repair so take a look!

Rebuilding brick chimneys in Minnesota

The most common problem with brick chimneys in Minnesota Most residential fireplace chimneys in the upper midwest built in the 60’s and 70’s were built with used Chicago bricks.  These bricks were salavaged from the demolition of tall brick buildings in Chicago and other cities.  Most of these bricks came from the core of [...]

Is your Fireplace Safe to use in Minnesota?

There are 3 considerations with your residential fireplace chimney: 1.  Fire safety:  Wood fires leave creosote on the inside of the flue tile.  This must be cleaned once a year to prevent chimney fires.  Also, the top flue tile is most vulnerable to cracking and should be inspected annually. 2.  Improper flashing, where the shingles meet the [...]
